Camas Teachers Strike Comes to an End

The Camas educators strikes ended with a new 2 year agreement. I want to point out something that shouldn’t be miraculous, but is in today’s climate of regime unions. Two things standout to me. When the bargaining team reached a tentative agreement, the union didn’t mobilize it’s propaganda to convince the rank and file to vote in favor, where then any opposition would require rank n file to quickly organize against and put out its own interpretation. Instead the union said the bargaining team had reached a tentative agreement, gave the rank n file the contract, then provided an in person space for the workers to discuss then vote. I included pics above to demonstrate what I mean.

Secondly, rather than. Mail in ballots or some alternative form of voting that; isolates the worker from coworkers as a automatons, the vote was held in person collectively where workers could put in context that their vote wasn’t just a personal matter but one made as a body, as workers in shared struggle. These are living examples of the types of class unionist principles in action I believe we are looking to grow in workers struggles

Congratulations to a strike well won, to the workers who got what it seems they were fighting for
